Stem Cell for Joint Pain

Stem Cell for Joint Pain

Stem cell therapy for joint pain is a revolutionary procedure that utilizes the body’s own cells to support the healing process of injured or degenerated joints. The best type of stem cells that can promote musculoskeletal healing of ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and bone are found in the bone marrow. Dr. Neal Handel and his team provide advanced cosmetic surgery as well as cutting edge health therapies such as stem cell treatment.

For nearly 40 years, leading plastic surgeon Dr. Handel along with his experienced staff has been helping people resolve their aesthetic as well as health concerns with innovative and proven solutions. Dr. Handel receives patients from Santa Barbara, CA, and surrounding communities for cutting edge procedures such as stem cell therapy for joint pain.

Benefits

Stem cell therapy is a non-surgical injectable procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis. For people who are suffering from joint pains, the treatment can prove to be a viable alternative against surgery or even joint replacement.

Stem cell therapy will avoid the typical lengthy and painful period of rehabilitation that is usually involved in a surgery. Mobility, strength and range of motion can be restored in a safe and healthy manner with stem cell joint treatment.

How does it Work?

Advanced techniques are available today to withdraw the stem cells from the bone marrow, and process them in a lab. The concentrated cells are then re-injected with high precision into the targeted areas where the joint tissue is injured or degenerated. Ultrasound or fluoroscopy techniques may be used to achieve higher precision in the treatment.

As the stem cells are re-injected into the targeted area, they promote the natural repair process of injured and degenerated ligaments, tendons and arthritic joints. This enables the reversal of the natural breakdown process that had begun due to overuse, injury or aging. As an experienced plastic surgeon and health professional, Dr. Handel provides this treatment to patients in Santa Barbara, CA, and nearby locations.

Procedure

The human body holds a natural supply of stem cells that are readily available to support the repair process of degenerated or injured tissues at any time. These stem cells stay in reserve in the marrow cavity of the bones. They may be harvested more easily from the iliac bone in the back of the hip area.

The procedure to obtain the stem cells can be performed in the surgeon’s office, using advanced imaging or ultrasound techniques for guidance. The patient will lay face down as the treatment expert numbs the bone and skin. A special needle will be inserted into the bone to withdraw marrow blood, which contains the stem cells.

This harvesting procedure is usually well tolerated by most patients, and can be performed smoothly by an expert. Once the marrow blood is drawn, it will be taken to the lab where it undergoes a centrifugal process to purify and concentrate the stem cells, while removing the other cells. These concentrated stem cells are then injected into the targeted area of the joint tissue to help heal the painful joints.

Facelift Plastic Surgery Cost

Facelift Plastic Surgery Cost

Cost is as important as the doctor’s credentials while considering facelift surgery. The key to looking youthful is cosmetic surgery procedures like a facelift which erases signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin etc. to enhance physical appearance. Premature aging is triggered by environmental factors, unhealthy lifestyle habits and poor diet. Who wants their skin looking dull like an 80 year old when they are in their mid 40’s? The science behind age reversal isn’t discovered yet but superficial age defying techniques are in demand.

Rhytidectomy or a face lift is performed by a plastic surgeon like Dr. Neal Handel, by tightening and lifting the underlying facial muscles to incorporate sharp contouring typical of youth, back into the face. Fat pockets are also removed. Facelift surgery is nothing short of magic, you walk in to the clinic looking older than you actually are and you walk out looking 20 years younger. The detailed artist contouring is achieved only by an exemplary artistic vision. A cosmetic surgeon’s job requires special trained skill sets which highly influences the end cost of the surgery. There is a saying that a thing of beauty lasts forever, so why not beautify the first noticed appearance: the face.

Cost Factors

Doctors cost

Doctor’s experience determines if the cost. More the number of satisfied patients greater the doctor’s fee. Cosmetic surgery handled by an exclusive plastic surgeon with face lift as their area of forte generally is priced higher than the surgery over seen by a regular surgeon who also takes on cases of plastic surgery. The location of the clinic also decides the cost. Consider a clinic in a big metropolitan city where the cost of running an establishment is pricy; to compensate money spent on the clinic’s sustenance, cost of the procedure is increased. Face lifts in smaller cities are more within a set budget. A recent statistics revealed the average surgeon’s cost is $7500.

Technique

Minimal invasive surgery with insignificant scaring using current surgery technology and equipment are priced higher. The end result is naturally younger looking skin with less recovery time. Extensive surgery like superficial masculoaponeurotic system (SAMS) and deep plane facelift cost more than minima invasive surgery like short scar facelift.

Surgery cost

The added cost of administering anesthesia, the anesthesiologist’s cost, the operating room charges, medication cost, hospital fees and other similar expenses are chargeable on the patient. Anesthesia fees amount to $1000-$1300 while the hospital fee is $500-$2000.

Insurance coverage

Few policies cover cosmetic surgery. Policy covered procedures cost less upfront than those which require full payment.

Combined procedures

If you opt for a face reconstructive surgery like rhinoplasty along with a face lift the total cost will be the sum of all the individual surgeries. It will work out cheaper if you get the surgeries at once than spacing them out and undergoing individual procedures.

Facelift Plastic Surgery Overview

Facelift Plastic Surgery Overview

The search for the fountain of youth is eternal. There is no mythical elixir that reverses aging. Science bestows the ability to discover or develop new technologies that can turn farfetched ideas into reality. Aging can be reversed at least superficially by a plastic surgery procedure popularly known as facelift.

Procedure

The most effective proven way to remove skin dullness, sagging and other signs of aging is by a facelift. Medically known as Rhytidectomy the procedure involves lifting off the primary layer of the skin to tighten the tissue underneath followed rolling the skin layer back on evenly. For the procedure you are sedated either by administering general anesthesia intravenously or local anesthesia to freeze sensation around specific regions. The next step is the incision that starts at the temple and ends near the chin in front of the ear to enable lifting of the skin to tighten the underlying tissues. Either fat is removed or the extra skin. The skin is then reset and the incision is closed by sutures. The scars of the surgery aren’t prominent because the location of the incision is at the place where the skin would naturally fold. Another variant is the limited access facelift where the incision is made either over the upper-lip or into the lower eye lid. Smaller incisions that are closer to the ear are also made. The cosmetic procedure extends to the neck and the chin to remove loose and sagging skin. For such procedures the cut starts at the front of the lower ear lobe and extends to the base of the hair line. Time taken to complete one facelift is several hours. Although you can go home after the surgery many prefer to stay overnight at the medical care facility.

Candidates

The results vary from person to person. For some the desired outcome is achieved by procedures that are done through non-invasive surgery like chemical peels. For some a brow lift or a neck lift might be sufficient. By having realistic expectations the end results will be more satisfactory.

The procedure is not suitable for those whose:

• Skin has lost its elasticity with minimized flexibility and suppleness.

• The bone structure of the face is not well defined and therefore doesn’t not offer the required support framework.

• A history of serious medical conditions that interfere with the process like a bleeding disorder.

Risks

Dr. Neal Handel explains that all surgeries have their own associated risks. The possible negative repercussions of a facelift are infection, uncontrolled hair loss, scarring, blood clots that might reach the lungs and heart (pulmonary embolism), allergic reaction to anesthesia, possible damage to the facial nerves that might translate to a spasm or face paralysis and bleeding below the skin.
The benefits of the procedure are exploited by men too. The procedure for both sexes is the same. Facelifts are beneficial for senior citizens who want to wipe off a certain number off their age.

Your Santa Barbara Botox Medical Spa

Your Santa Barbara Botox Medical Spa

If you are looking forward to a day of self- pampering and while at the same time seek medically aided beautification processes like treating wrinkles, skin laxity, dull and lifeless skin and other signs of ageing a medical spa is where you have to go. Other procedures like laser hair removal treatment, lightening of stretch marks and rectifying veins are also done at Santa Barbara Medical spa. The most requested treatment is Botox.

Botox

The first use of Botox to treat a cognitive condition of lazy eye was in 1980’s.Since then it has been used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), fine lines and wrinkles. Medically identified as botulinum type A, Botox is a highly purified protein. The protein is derived from a bacterial species and is categorized as a toxin. Scientists claim that it is the most poisonous toxin known to man and as little as a gram can effectively kill one million and a few human beings. In spite of being a toxin why is Botox still in high demand? The answer lies in the cure of several medical conditions when administered in the right amount. Dr Neal Handel in Santa Barbara says that the factor that demarcates Botox from a poison to treatment is the dosage. When injected in very small quantities, the toxin paralyzes muscles by not allowing them to contract. The effect is induced when the nerve signals directed at the muscles are blocked. Muscle contraction is directed by acetylcholine that is released at the nerve endings. These chemical messengers then go interact with receptors on the muscle leading to muscle contraction. Botox blocks these muscle receptors reducing inappropriate muscle contraction and stiffness.

Botox Before & After Photo Gallery

What can Botox treat?

Predominantly, Botox is the magic eraser that makes signs of ageing like wrinkles, dark spots and fine lines disappear. Apart from its use in cosmetic surgery procedure, Botox is also used for the treatment of over 20 medical conditions with other applications under research. Botox is used for:

• Shoulder and neck spasm
• Eyelid spasm
• Migraine
• Muscle spasticity post stroke
• Overactive bladder
• Crow’s feet
• Excessive sweating
• Crossed eye
• Fine lines between eyebrows
• Hemifacial spasm

How is Botox done?

The complete effect is visible only after 72 hours. Botox is injected by diluting it with saline powder and then directly injecting it into the neuromuscular tissue. The toxin then attacks the muscle receptors and the process takes about 72 hours. In some cases the toxin may take up to 5 days for the visible effects to appear. Botox must be strictly avoided on pregnant and lactating mothers.

What are the associated risks?

The procedure is safe, the drug itself is FDA approved and been in use for decades. As with any treatment, a small population may be allergic to or immune to botilunum toxin A. higher population amounting to 44% shows immunity to type B toxin. Some side effects that could occur include scarring or slight nausea. One procedure of Botox is roughly done every 7 seconds across the world.

INTRODUCING LIPOGEMS!

Neal Handel MD is the first practice to introduce FDA approved Lipogems to the United States!

What is Lipogems?

Lipogems refers to the method of processing and purifying fat for use as an injectable filler that has powerful rejuvenation and anti ageing properties.

Lipogems system ensures that the fat processed is rich in stem cells and growth factors that can effectively restore volume, tone and texture in the face and hands.

The process is completed during a single session of approximately 90 minutes.

Dr. Neal Handel Introduces Lipogems

Dr. Handel’s office is the first plastic surgery practice in the US to offer Lipogems, which is an FDA-approved cosmetic rejuvenation procedure.

Unlike traditional cosmetic surgery, which will involve a prolonged process from preparation to recovery, Lipogems is a less invasive procedure with minimal downtime. Dr. Handel provides this procedure to his patients in Santa Barbara, CA and Beverly Hills, CA.

Benefits

Lipogems does not require the addition of any enzymes or chemicals before the fat can be re-injected into the targeted areas, this ensures that the re-injected fat comprises only the patient’s own refined cells. The minimal gap between fat extraction and injection cuts down the risk of contamination and avoids the need to add preservative chemicals.

Lipogems device is entirely disposable after single use, which ensures sterility. The fat process with the Lipogems system has a higher graft survival rate, which will improve the quality of surrounding tissue and the appearance of the overlying skin. Unlike other fat transfer techniques, with the Lipogems injection process, the processed fat flows smoothly, which helps to reduce discomfort during and after the procedure.

Areas suited to Lipogems rejuvenation include:

  • Mid face
  • Tear troughs
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lips and around the mouth
  • The back of hands

Botox

Botox is widely recognized as the leading anti-aging, non-surgical facial injectable procedure in the world. Based on botulinum toxin, this FDA approved medication is injected directly into the wrinkle forming muscle in the face. The neurotoxin causes near-instant paralyzing of the targeted muscle for a temporary period.

In about three to five days, the patient can experience full results of the procedure and enjoy a wrinkle-free skin in the treated area. The results with Botox may last for three to six months. Dr. Handel may recommend Botox to suitable candidates who wish to avoid a facelift or another cosmetic surgery for facial rejuvenation.

Facial Fillers

Hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are highly popular injectable treatments to reduce wrinkles, lines, and creases on the face. The filler gel is designed to volumize the targeted areas of the face, which can help to correct certain facial depressions and deformities, fill wrinkles, make facial skin appear smoother and tighter.

As an experienced plastic surgeon, Dr. Handel can provide these advanced filler injections in a safe and effective manner. He receives patients from Santa Barbara, California, and nearby areas. Dr. Handel also offers Radiesse, which is stronger facial filler designed to achieve longer lasting soft tissue contour enhancement.

Non-surgical Rhinoplasty

Dr. Handel can improve the nasal contours by using FDA approved cosmetic filler injections such as Radiesse and Juvederm. Concave or depressed areas of the nose can be filled up instantly with these filler gels to smooth out irregularities. Injectable rhinoplasty filler treatment can be performed with the patient under local anesthesia as an in-office procedure.

Chemical Peel

Dr. Handel and his team are able to provide customized chemical peel treatments for facial rejuvenation, ranging from mild peels to very strong and deep peels. Vi Peel is one of the popular peels offered, which is suitable for almost any skin type.

The patient can achieve improvement in skin tone and texture, regain clearer skin, and experience reduction in freckles, age spots, and hyper pigmentation. Another advanced peel treatment is TCA peel, which is performed personally by Dr. Handel. This peel treatment is available in four different strengths to suit the unique needs of a patient.

Vanquish Fat Reduction

Vanquish is an innovative non-invasive fat reduction procedure that is based on RF technology. Vanquish system is designed to selectively heat the unwanted fat cells to a temperature of 44 to 45° Celsius, causing it to melt away gradually. The surrounding healthy tissue remains unaffected and the patient is able to achieve slimmer and smoother contours.
