Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®: BEST U.S. PAPER AWARD

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® (PRS) is the official journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), which is the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world. BestUSPaperAwardPRS2014The goal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® is to inform readers about important developments in all areas related to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. This journal is the leading source for peer-reviewed articles and reports on the latest studies, techniques, and technologies in these fields.

As a surgeon who is dedicated to educating fellow surgeons and helping them produce the best results for their patients,  I have published my extensive research and findings in over 60 articles for scholarly journals and a dozen textbook chapters. Of my work published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery®, I was very humbled to learn that my manuscript, “The Double-Bubble Deformity: Cause, Prevention, and Treatment” won “BEST U.S. PAPER” in this journal for calendar 2013.

Determining the BEST U.S. PAPER

The Editorial and Publishing staff of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® took all the manuscripts published on PRSJournal.com and gathered the following data from the 2013 calendar year:

  • Number of full text article views
  • Number of PDF views
  • Number of times sent by email
  • Number of times the article was added to a personal collection

This data was calculated to represent the average number of times per month those activities occurred. These averages were combined to create a score for each manuscript so they could be evaluated fairly, independent of publication month. Based on this criteria, I was informed by the journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Rod J. Rohrich, MD, that my paper “was, by a distinct margin, the best paper from the United States of America” in its category.

I am honored to receive this award and to know that my manuscript has helped other surgeons understand the double-bubble deformity. The knowledge of how to avoid this deformity through careful preoperative planning as well as how to correct it through a proper understanding of the anatomy of the breast crease allows surgeons to produce the safest and most effective results for their patients.
